Creating a High Quality Blog Post

  1. Blog posts should be a minimum of one short paragraph (a paragraph is 4-5 sentences).
  2. You must respond to at least two other classmates blog post.
    • If you are the first to post something then you need to check the blog later to see when someone else posts a blog entry.
  3.   In your post address the topic or questions as much as possible.
  4.  Try to use quotes from academic literature or scientists that support your posts.
  5.  Use your blog posts to talk about things you already know about.
  6.  Use proper etiquette (proper language, typing, etc.).
    • Don’t use texting language like ROFL
  7.  Post links to additional resources (websites, books, articles, pictures, video and audio).
  8.  In your responses to other students avoid postings that are limited to ‘I agree/disagree’ or ‘great idea,’ etc.
    • If you agree (or disagree) with a posting then say why you agree by supporting your statement with concepts from the readings or by bringing in a related example or experience.
  9.    Build on the responses of other students to create threads of conversation.
  10.   If you are stuck on what to write consider the following approaches.
    • Provide another way of looking at the situation
    • Share stories about your own experiences
    • Ask questions to further the discussion
    • Discuss why you agree or disagree with something someone else has posted
This is called netiquette.
